چکیده
Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) is a pseudocereal grown on limited extensions in Italy and Western Europe in general, but is currently the subject of considerable interest from the scientific community and consumers for its unique nutritional properties: it is rich in vitamins and mineral salts, dietary fiber and antioxidant substances, and it is free of gluten. This species also has agronomic characteristics that make it suitable for cultivation in mountain environments, enabling farmers to extend and change crop rotations: a short growing season, limited nutritional needs, good adaptation to acid soils, tolerance to pests and weeds. Buckwheat cultivation in Italy is more common in the Alps, but recently experiments have been carried out which have shown its good adaptation to the climatic conditions of the Apennines. In this paper, we present the results of an experimental field trial conducted in the year 2015 in two mountain localities of Umbria (Castelluccio di Norcia and Norcia) in which were compared 4 varieties and 2 seeding densities. The results confirmed the suitability of the mountain places of central Italy (especially those located at high altitudes) for the cultivation of buckwheat and indicated significant differences between yields and grain quality traits of different varieties. The different seeding rates resulted in significant differences in some biometric parameters of plants, but not in production yields. Keywords— Cultivar evaluation, Fagopyrum esculentum, Italy, organic farming, planting densities.

A field experiment was carried out during the 2013-2014 growing season in Lorestan Province (Iran) to evaluate the effect of three planting densities (30, 55, and 83 plant.m-2) on growth indices and grain yield of four chickpea cultivars (Azad, Hashem, Arman and ILC482) under the fall dry land farming condition. The experiment design was factorial based on a randomized complete block design (RC...
متن کاملThe impact of landslides in the Umbria region, central Italy
The Umbria Region of Central Italy has a long history of mass movements. Landslides range from fast moving rock falls and debris flows, most abundant in mountain areas, to slow moving complex failures extending up to several hectares in the hilly part of the Region. Despite landslides occurring every year in Umbria, their impact remains largely unknown. We present an estimate of the impact of s...

To evaluate fall dormancy of twenty alfalfa local ecotypes and exotic cultivars, this study was conducted in two separate experiments (conventional or dense planting and spaced planting) using randomized complete block design with three replications in three growing seasons 2014, 2015 and 2016 in two locations (Karaj and Khoy), Iran. First growing season was considered as estabilishment season....
متن کاملPredicting the Effect of Climate Change on Potato Production in Fereidunshahr (Isfahan, Central Iran) and Evaluation of Adaptation Strategies (Adopting Cultivars and Planting Dates)
Strategies to enhance local adaptation capacity are needed to mitigate climate change impacts and to maintain regional stability of food production. The objectives of this study were to simulate the climate change effects on phenology stages, potato production in the future and to explore the possibilities of employing planting dates and various varieties (Agria, Arinda and Santeh) as mitigatin...
